Treatment Approach

Sarah believes the most crucial element of therapy is a strong therapeutic relationship. She strives to create a safe, compassionate environment full of trust, where we work as a team. Sarah understands that every individual needs a different toolbox to grow. She uses an integrative approach, with a core of person-centered therapy. Sarah includes elements of Play Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Expressive Arts Therapies, Strengths-Based approaches, and Internal Family Systems.

When working with dissociative systems, she uses a 3-stage approach of stabilization, trauma processing, and integration (functional multiplicity or final fusion. Client's choice!)

Sarah utilizes IFS for dissociative systems to make use of coping skills when the client isn't ready for system-awareness. She uses IFS to help increase system communication. She utilizes the work to help get at each alter's needs, motivations, and desires, but rejects the idea of "core self". Each alter is equally "self". Sarah understands that each alter is a 3-dimensional identity, and can each have their own IFS system.
