The French philosopher and activist Simone Weil once wrote: “Pain and suffering are a kind of currency passed from hand to hand until they reach someone who receives them but does not pass them on.” These are the people who tend to seek out my services. Psychotherapy is a second career for me, but I come to it with years of experience supporting individuals in chronic pain support groups, hospice, and foster care, residential, and occupational therapy settings. Though I support adults experiencing a wide range of issues, I work most frequently with chronic pain and illness, dissociation and dissociative identities, grief and loss, and family-of-origin concerns. I believe the potential for deep healing, connection, and revitalization exists within this work.

Treatment Approach:
While my approach is integrative—meaning I pull from many modalities based upon an individual, couple, or family’s specific needs—it is grounded in relational psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an evidence-based treatment. Practicing from a psychodynamic perspective means I understand emotional difficulties as shaped by past and present relationships, including experiences of trauma and early attachment. While our work will focus on relieving symptoms and moving toward desired outcomes, it will also explore underlying emotional patterns, relational expectations, and ways of coping that developed early in life, often outside of conscious awareness. Other modalities I sometimes utilize include sensorimotor therapy and other somatic practices, parts work (not IFS), mindfulness, DBT and/or other skills-based learning, and more. I do not utilize modalities that do not resonate with you.
