“I contain multitudes” is a Walt Whitman quote I resonate with because it touches on the adaptive strengths each part of us contains. I hold hope for every client and gently carry pain with those who desperately need someone to be in it with them. Nothing is “too much” or “too dark” to bring to therapy. Even if you have received counseling for years without much success, I can help explore inner parts that may be stuck in time and carrying pain which makes present healing difficult. My approach is warm, collaborative, creative, and trauma-sensitive. I have an amazing loved one with DID who has helped me develop a deep compassion for the unique struggles those with DID face, including an understanding of contributing traumas such as childhood sexual abuse and ritual abuse. I’m also part of a monthly DID consultation group and a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Something unique I bring to therapy is my lived experience with mental health, which allows me to approach my clients’ suffering with a nuanced understanding. Clinically, my experience includes working at an intensive treatment center and two Child Advocacy Centers (focusing on childhood sexual abuse), one which is also an Adult Sexual Assault Center. My work has made me passionate about fighting against a flawed and discriminatory mental health system through advocacy and by providing culturally sensitive care. I deeply believe that the opportunity to pursue healing via counseling should be accessible. That said, those who can pay full session fees help make it possible for me to offer a sliding scale/ reduced fee option to those who might not be able to access services otherwise. Please reach out for more information about financial resources. I can answer your questions about therapy via email or we can schedule a free phone consultation. You can then decide if working together feels right and, if so, schedule your first session.
Treatment Approach
I integrate therapies such as Ego-state Therapy (a type of parts work), EMDR (when appropriate and always dissociation-informed), Somatic Therapy (body-based techniques), and DBT (when skills could be helpful) in addition to elements of Sand Tray and Play Therapy. I also pull from Structural Dissociation Theory and Attachment Theory, and I incorporate art, creativity, and movement into the healing process per client preference.
