Licensed to practice psychology in Ohio since 1983.

he/him

I have been in the practice of clinical psychology since 1983, and I have also practiced forensic psychology. I completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Case Western Reserve University in 1984. I have been licensed as a psychologist in Ohio since 1983 (I do not practice in other states or countries, but I offer telehealth services to individuals living in Ohio). My specialty areas include working with adults living with dissociative disorders, complex PTSD, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and panic disorders. I am a past president of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), and I led the committee that wrote the first treatment guidelines for adults with DID (they are being revised). I also wrote the first article linking attachment theory to the  development of dissociative disorders.

Treatment Approach

I have a relational and experiential approach to therapy. That means that your emotions and other responses during our appointments are pathways to changing patterns of thinking and acting that block you from getting what you need or want. I’m trained in clinical hypnosis, EMDR, and techniques of Gestalt therapy.

I do not use IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy. With respect to the issue of integration as an endpoint in working with people living with dissociative disorders, this is a matter of the client's preference. I agree with David Caul, M.D., a past president of ISSTD: "It seems to me that after treatment you want a functional unit, be it a corporation, a partnership, or a one-owner business."
